Propertyguru is a property listing site that people use to find houses that they might be interested in renting/buying. Your neighbourhood and what it can offer you is a big part of the experience of living anywhere. With this feature, we help people know what’s around a potential house they might someday call home.
Every property listing that we have on our site has it’s own Landing page that gives user the information about the listing for ex : pretty pictures showing what the property looks like, price and the amenities that come with it. We have these landing pages to paint as much of a clear picture as possible virtually to help users decide if that property is for them. And the map widget fits right in ready to tell you what’s nearby.

Problem we were looking to solve

- Classification - We had important subcategories like doctor and parks under family living which might come off wrong given non family oriented people also use hospital services or a park.
- clear and fast identification of pins - the pins and the icons inside were also hard to identify, we wanted to design a pin that would be quickly recognisable with its identity (using icons and colours with very clear contrast between them so it’s quick to recognise what subcategory that pin belongs to)
- Making nearby places glanceable without interacting with the map
Reimagining the map widget
Explorations
- Made classification of subcategories simpler and made the list of Places of interest scrollable. But the horizontal scroll might get too long so maybe not this…

- Exploration 2 - What if there was a highlight section that reduced clicking on other subcategories and at a glance gave you access to highlighted places nearby? But the catch was - considering how many bus stations and schools are nearby, how would we pick between which is better ?

- A list of places of interest for every subcategory, right below the map. Seems about right but it’s probably better to not allow users to crowd the map by allowing them to see multiple subcategories at the same time
